HOME<\/a> > SOFTWARE MIGRATION<\/a> > SUCCESS STORIES<\/a> > AMADEUS GERMANY<\/a> It really worked: at 11.55 pm on 30 April 2008, the last BS2000 system was switched off at Amadeus Germany<\/a>.<\/p>\n This was prece\u00added by a migration project surely unique in its comple\u00adxity. During the three-year project term, thousands of SPL programs and SDF proce\u00addu\u00adres with several million lines of code (LOC) were automa\u00adti\u00adcally conver\u00adted to C++ or Perl on UNIX. Amadeus migra\u00adted the high-perfor\u00ad\u00admance file-handling system on the BS2000 to Oracle relatio\u00adnal databa\u00adses, and they repla\u00adced the DCAM monitor with openUTM on UNIX. The target systems run in a nearly 24\/7 opera\u00adtion cycle and process around 500 user transac\u00adtions per second (TA\/s) during peak periods, corre\u00adspon\u00adding to around 1,000 techni\u00adcal TA\/s.<\/p>\n The extent of this project becomes clear in the follo\u00adwing figures: Amadeus Germany GmbH is Germany\u2019s leading provi\u00adder of IT soluti\u00adons for the travel indus\u00adtry. In Germany, 85 % of all travel agencies work with the Amadeus system with about 45,000 PCs. Amadeus Germany\u2019s list of custo\u00admers includes but is not limited to 75,000 hotels, 500 airlines and about 200 travel and bus operators.<\/p>\n The project team managed logisti\u00adcal challenges, because opera\u00adtion had to be contin\u00adued without problems during the entire multi\u00adan\u00adnual project term. In addition, a monthly release of new program versi\u00adons was requi\u00adred to meet custo\u00admers\u2019 requests.<\/p>\n We develo\u00adped the migration tools. Further\u00admore, several employees of us were integra\u00adted into the project and added their experi\u00adence and know-how in the fields of migration and reengi\u00adnee\u00adring. The follo\u00adwing tools were develo\u00adped especi\u00adally for this project: During the develo\u00adp\u00adment we benefi\u00adted from the know-how of compi\u00adler develo\u00adp\u00adment and the decade\u00adlong experi\u00adence in successful execu\u00adtion of software migration projects. For the develo\u00adp\u00adment of tools, we used our own meta tools such as the in-house develo\u00adped parser genera\u00adtor BTRACC (Backtrack\u00ading Compi\u00adler Compi\u00adler). The tools can be used for other migration projects as well.<\/p>\n The success of the project leads to the follo\u00adwing conclusions:<\/p>\n
